WPI Economics is delighted to have passed the B Corporation assessment with flying colours, and to have joined the UK’s community of 2000+ B Corporations.
Established in 2016, the focus of WPI Economics has always been on doing work that matters and that has a clear impact for its clients. This commitment to making a difference on major economic, social and environmental issues was at the heart of the decision to become a B Corporation.
B Corporation verification shows WPI Economics has met the required high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability alongside a commitment to goals beyond shareholder value. It also verifies that the work it delivers for clients is driving measurable change.
WPI Economics’ Founder and Director, Matthew Oakley, said:
“I created WPI Economics to do things differently, while bringing together the best of everything I had seen in my career to date. I could not be more proud that we are now officially a B Corporation.
“With the General Election drawing closer, and major societal, economic and business issues looming large, making the right kind of impact is going to be more important than ever for us and our clients.”
B Corp Certification assesses the entirety of a business’ operations and currently covers five main impact areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers.
The certification process is rigorous, with companies required to reach a score of 80 points in the B Impact Assessment while providing evidence of responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity, and corporate transparency. WPI Economics achieved a total score of 115.7 points, well above the certification threshold.
Alongside an assessment of the process and approaches WPI Economics has adopted as a business, it also conducted a robust assessment of the impact of its work. WPI Economics scored highly in all three of its Impact Business Model areas: supporting purpose driven and underserved enterprises; serving those in need; and impact improvement.
