This report was commissioned in order to further understand the current and future state of the green economy within Surrey and North/mid Hampshire. It draws on a range of insights and analysis from WPI Economics, Lightcast, and the Data City to set out the current state of play for green jobs and the green economy in Surrey and North/Mid Hampshire (collectively, the LSIP area), its strong potential for growth, as well as how this interlinks with skills provision.
Our analysis, which draws on Lightcast data, finds that there are around 35,000 green jobs in the LSIP area currently, or 3.8% of total employees, and 21,000 green jobs in Surrey currently, or 3.7% of total employees
Projecting into 2030 and 2050, we find that the number of green jobs in the LSIP area will rise from 35,000 in 2022 to 57,000 in 2030 and 108,000 in 2050, and the number of green jobs in Surrey will rise from 21,000 in 2022 to 34,000 in 2030 and 64,000 in 2050.
