This privacy notice governs the collection, storage, use, disclosure and disposal of personal information by us, WPI Economics. It provides details about the personal information that we collect from you, how we use your personal information, your rights regarding the personal information that we hold about you and how to contact us or make a complaint.

Personal data we process

We process data to support us in our efforts to find business, conduct research related to commissioned projects, and disseminate our work. This can include, but is not limited to:

  • Names;
  • Job titles and employer names; and
  • Work contact details.

For the purposes of recruitment, we also collect:

  • Personal contact details
  • Data given on CVs submitted to us such as dates of birth, details of qualifications, skills, experience and employment history, and nationality and entitlement to work in the UK.
  • Equal opportunities monitoring information, including information about candidates’ gender, ethnic origin, sexual orientation and health (provided on an optional basis).

We collect this information by a number of means including:

  • Directly from the individuals themselves;
  • From desk-based research into stakeholders with an interest in topics relevant to WPI Economics’ aims using public sources such as websites; and
  • Recommendations from other stakeholders, including our clients.

In the case of recruitment we collect this data from information candidates submit to us, either through online forms or email.

What we do with this data

We process your personal information to communicate with you for purposes including, but not limited to:

  • Communicating with stakeholders via our newsletters;
  • Organising events, such as policy roundtables; and
  • Updating stakeholders on relevant policy events and reports.

We process this data on the legal basis of legitimate interests, and we may share this data with our sister company, WPI Strategy on the same basis. Our legitimate interests are in the marketing of our services, conducting of our business, and dissemination of our work.

If you are a client, we may also process information necessary for the fulfilment of a contract we have with you. If you do not provide us with this information we may be unable to fulfil our contract with you.

Processing data from job applicants allows us to manage the recruitment process, assess and confirm a candidate’s suitability for employment and decide to whom to offer a job. We use the following lawful reasons to obtain and use your Personal Data:

  • Contract: WPI Economics needs to process your Personal Data to take steps at your request, prior to entering into a potential employment contract with you
  • Legal Obligation: In some cases, the organisation needs to process data to ensure that it is complying with its legal obligations. For example, it is required to check a successful applicant’s eligibility to work in the UK before employment starts.
  • Legitimate Interest: In other cases, WPI Economics has a legitimate interest in processing Personal Data during and after the end of the recruitment process, including running the recruitment processes, responding to and defending against legal claims and; Maintaining and promoting equal opportunities within the workplace.

Our cloud storage company is located in the U.S. and is certified under the EU-U.S Privacy Shield Framework. This protects the fundamental rights of anyone in the EU whose personal data is transferred to the United States for commercial purposes and has been the subject of an adequacy decision by the European Commission.

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling.

We retain business client data for as long as it is necessary for our purposes. If we learn that data we hold is no longer relevant for our purposes – for example, if we receive a bounce from an email, or learn someone has moved organisation – we delete or amend it as appropriate.

In the case of recruitment data:

  • If your application for employment is unsuccessful, we will hold your data on file for 1 year after the end of the relevant recruitment process. At the end of that period your data is deleted or destroyed.
  • If your application for employment is successful, personal data gathered during the recruitment process will be transferred to your personnel file and retained during your employment. The periods for which your data will be held will be provided to you in a new privacy notice.
  • Equality and diversity data will combined (aggregated) with other applicants’ data and analysed only on an anonymous basis. Non-anonymised data will be deleted once the data has been aggregated.

  • otherwise restrict our processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.
