WPI Economics led and managed the Secretariat and Technical Team for the Social Metrics Commission. Formed of 15 policy, political and measurement experts, the Commission developed a radical new approach to measuring poverty in the UK.
Launched with widespread coverage across print and broadcast media, the work takes in to account the full range of resources that families have and the extra costs of disability, childcare and housing that impact on their ability to make ends meet.
This new framework can be used to understand more about the nature of poverty, the lived experience of those families in poverty and how poverty might be tackled.
