The emissions of the UK’s building stock must be urgently addressed if the UK is to meet its climate targets in the coming decades, and ultimately end its contribution to global warming in 2050. In contrast to sectors such as power, the built environment has seen a stasis of progress in emissions reductions in recent years. This report details how the levels of ambition and policy for buildings decarbonisation vary significantly depending on which part of the UK you live in. This work explores current retrofit demonstrator projects across the UK, whilst conducting a comparison of progress between the devolved administrations. The report calls for long-term clarity on policy as well as a ‘just transition’ approach that ensures that all households are able to realise the benefits of a greener building stock.
