Director Matthew Oakley speaks as panellist at Integration APPG meeting on technology’s potential to bring generations together

On 17th June, WPI Economics Director Matt Oakley joined the panel at an Integration APPG meeting, chaired by Chuka Umunna, discussing the potential that technology has to improve intergenerational connection. Matt drew on WPI Economics’ report, Harnessing Technology to Tackle Loneliness, which outlines existing and potential benefits of technology to reduce loneliness in older adults. In the panel discussion, Matt highlighted the emotional and economic costs of loneliness, and how wearable technology and the Internet of Things can support adult social care through supporting independence and connections with the wider community.
