Director Matthew Oakley speaks at SMC’s new poverty measurement launch
Director of WPI Economics, Matthew Oakley, who led and managed the Secretariat and the Technical Team for the Social Metrics Commission, presented on the new poverty measure report at its launch on the 18th September 2018.
Matthew discussed how poverty needs to be addressed by the current government and how this new framework can be used to understand more about the nature of poverty and how poverty might be tackled.
The event, which included a speech from CEO of the Legatum Institute, Philippa Stroud, and Associate Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, Robert Joyce, addressed many of the findings of the new report, and the opportunities that this new measurement could bring. The event also featured a discussion with fellow commissioners, Helen Barnard (Joseph Rowntree Foundation) and Leon Feinstein (Children’s Commissioner’s Office).
