The Benefits of Personalised Support
WPI Economics is currently conducting a project to help promote and share new and innovative segmentation tools in the UK’s welfare system.
The first part of this process was research into different international approaches, and how effective they were at fast-tracking claimants to specialist assistance. Our findings revealed that the use of statistical profiling could permit a better prediction of long-term unemployment and more efficient approaches to providing access to respective employment support with varying levels of conditionality.
Our current phase of work is focused on turning these insights into policy outcomes, and we are working to make the case for developing a segmentation tool in the UK. As part of this, we operate a practitioners group, bringing together professionals working in this area to ensure lessons and design insights are shared, and we are also directly supporting areas and regions that are seeking to develop segmentation tools.
